I think I'm more excited than he is. :)
Cross-posted in my Mentoring Blog:
I wrote last night about the co-worker who I encouraged to (and helped to) submit a proposal to teach an online seminar. Today he received a telephone call from the sponsoring organization. He participated in an extensive telephone interview regarding the proposal and his expertise, he did a fantastic job! The interviewer was very impressed and indicated that his proposal was on the short list and that he should hear back from them one way or the other next week sometime.
It was amazing and wonderful to watch him as the interview progressed. His whole posture changed (as did his face) - it was a bad morning here at work and this was more than just what he needed. Knowing that what he does, what he knows, and what he has to share is valued by someone else (someone from the "outside" of our little environment) is such a significant thing.
I'm equally amazed at how good this has made me feel - it's not a sense of pride either... rather it is a sense of deep gratitude (although I'm not sure who the gratitude is directed toward).
I do hope that when I return from FETC it will be to find that he has moved from the "short list" to the "presenter list."

Having someone you helped do well is a very wonderful thing. I know how you feel.
